The Art of Living Beautifully – Why Timeless Interiors Never Follow Fashion
There is a difference between a beautifully decorated room and a truly beautiful interior.
One captures your attention, the other captures your imagination.
A remarkable interior does not need to announce its importance. Its beauty is discovered through proportion, atmosphere, carefully chosen materials and the quiet confidence of a space that knows exactly what it is.
True elegance never needs to compete for attention. It simply belongs.
The Difference Between Fashion and Style
Fashion is constantly changing. Colours arrive and disappear. Furniture shapes become fashionable, only to be replaced by the next new idea.
But style is something altogether different. Style is an expression of individuality. It is the ability to recognize beauty beyond passing trends and to create an environment that feels deeply personal.
Consider the extraordinary interiors of Paris during the 1930’s ( a period that truly inspires me ) when modernism, architectural restraint and exceptional craftsmanship began shaping a new expression of luxury.
The work of designers such as Jean-Michael Frank demonstrated that simplicity could be extraordinarily sophisticated.
Beautiful materials, elegant proportions and thoughtfully considered furnishings became the foundation of interiors that remain relevant almost a century later. They were not designed merely to impress. They were designed to endure.
Where Fashion Meets Interior Design
I have always believed that fashion and interior design are intimately connected.
Both are expressions of personal style. Both celebrate proportion, craftsmanship, beautiful materials and the art of creating something extraordinary.
A beautifully tailored couture gown and an elegantly designed room have more in common than one might imagine.
The silhouette of a chair can possess the same sculptural elegance as an evening dress. The folds of luxurious curtains can echo the movement of silk. The precision of architectural detailing can be as exquisite as the construction of a perfectly tailored jacket.
And just as the most memorable women possess a style entirely their own, the most memorable interiors have an unmistakable identity.
I have long admired the sophistication of French Couture, particularly the extraordinary attention to detail associated with the House of Dior.
That same philosophy informs my approach to interiors. Not simply decoration, but composition.
